A Note From Steve

I'm not an investment guru.

I'm just an ordinary bloke trying to make my money work for me instead of sitting in a bank account doing very little.

I've spent years building businesses and helping other people with theirs. Now I'm applying the same common-sense approach to investing.

No fancy trading strategies. No "get rich quick" promises. No pretending I know where the market is going tomorrow. I simply invest regularly into ETFs and quality companies, keep learning, and let time and compounding do the heavy lifting.

I use a Stocks ISA, a SIPP, and invest directly in individual shares — keeping it simple and steady across all three. I share what I do, what I learn, what works, what doesn't, and the occasional mistake along the way.

If you're looking for investment advice, I'm not your man. If you're looking for an ordinary person trying to build a better financial future one step at a time, you're in the right place.

This is what I do and it is not investment or financial advice.

Stocks and investments can go up as well as down. Nothing on this website is financial advice. All investments can go down as well as up. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Always do your own research and seek professional advice where appropriate.

Buy Less Crap is a personal blog where I, Steve, share my own investing journey, thoughts, and approach. I am not a financial adviser, I am not regulated by the FCA, and nothing I write should be taken as a recommendation to buy or sell any investment.

What this site is

This is me sharing what I do with my own money — my ETF choices, the platforms I use, my investment strategy, and lessons I've learned. Think of it as a conversation over coffee with someone who's been investing a while, not as professional guidance.

This is what I do

I invest my own money into broad-market ETFs and quality companies using a Stocks ISA and a SIPP. Same amount, same day, every month. I use common sense. I share what I do, what I learn, what works, and what doesn't. If it helps you think about your own approach, great. If not, that's fine too.

This is what I do and it is not investment or financial advice. Stocks and investments can go up as well as down. Nothing on this website is financial advice. All investments can go down as well as up. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Always do your own research and seek professional advice where appropriate.

Risk warning — please read carefully

Investing carries risk. The value of investments can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you originally invested. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. No content on this website constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.

No financial advice

Nothing published on Buy Less Crap constitutes a personal recommendation, financial advice, or a solicitation to buy or sell any investment. I am not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) or any other regulatory body. Any investment decisions you make are entirely your own responsibility.

Your responsibility

You should always carry out your own independent research before making any investment decision. Consider your personal circumstances — your age, income, dependants, debt, risk tolerance, and financial goals. What is suitable for me may not be suitable for you. If you are in any doubt, you should speak to a qualified, FCA-regulated independent financial adviser.

No liability

I make no representations, warranties, or guarantees as to the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information on this website. You rely on any information found here entirely at your own risk. I accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or reliance on, any content published on this website.

No endorsement or recommendation

Where I reference specific platforms, brokers, products, or services — such as Trading 212, InvestEngine, or Vanguard — this does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation. I simply share what I use myself. You should carry out your own checks to determine whether any platform or product is appropriate for your needs.

The important bits

  • All investments can go down as well as up. You could get back less than you put in.
  • Past performance does not guarantee future results. What worked for me might not work for you.
  • Every investor's situation is different — age, goals, risk tolerance, income, dependants. What makes sense for a 66-year-old business owner might not make sense for someone at a different stage of life.
  • Always do your own research before making any investment decision.
  • If you're unsure about what's right for you, speak to a qualified, FCA-regulated financial adviser.
  • Tax rules (ISAs, SIPPs, capital gains, dividends) depend on your individual circumstances and may change in the future.

Referral links

Some links on this site to platforms like Trading 212, InvestEngine, and Vanguard may be referral links. If you sign up through one, I may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. I only link to platforms I use myself or have researched thoroughly. Referral income helps keep this site free for everyone.

Accuracy

I do my best to keep information accurate and up to date, but I make no guarantees. Information can become outdated quickly — always verify key details yourself before acting.
