Every Book On Buy Less Crap

Ten books, two authors, and three shelves that have nothing to do with each other. One is a rant about modern life, one is a dystopian thriller, one will teach you to grow mushrooms, and seven are about a King, a Donkey and a goat called Keith. Here's what each of them actually is, and where to start.

The Short Answer

There are 10 books on Buy Less Crap. S.R. has written three: Am I Ready For This Shit? (comedy survival guide), Genesis of Rebellion (dystopian thriller) and The Power of Lion's Mane Mushroom (cookbook and growing guide). W. Ingle has written seven illustrated comedy books in the Wingle Universe, starting with I'm The King. Don't Ask Why. All ten are available on Amazon.

Books By S.R.

Three books that share nothing except an author. Deliberately.

Standalone

Am I Ready For This Shit?

by S.R.

A brutally funny, painfully familiar survival guide to modern life in the Twatverse — passwords you can't remember, software updates that fix one thing and break three others, bins requiring an advanced degree in waste management, and cars that know something is wrong but refuse to say what. Underneath the swearing is a warmer book about getting older, dealing with people, and laughing at the whole ridiculous mess.

Who it's for: Anyone who has stood in a kitchen at 7pm wondering how a five-minute job became an afternoon of complete madness.

Standalone — dystopian thriller

Genesis of Rebellion: The Panopticon's Awakening

by S.R.

A dystopian thriller. Same author, entirely different shelf — no jokes, no Twatverse, just a surveillance state and a story about what happens when people decide they have had enough of it.

Who it's for: Readers who like their fiction tense, political and a little too plausible.

Practical guide

The Power of Lion's Mane Mushroom: Nature's Mind Tonic

by S.R.

52 recipes, a 7-day meal plan, and a step-by-step guide to growing your own lion's mane at home. Covers cooking techniques including the dry-sauté method, buying advice for fresh, dried, powder and capsule forms, and an honest look at the research on focus, memory, mood, gut health and immunity — what's promising and what's still unknown.

Who it's for: Anyone curious about functional mushrooms, natural nootropics, or new plant-based meals — and anyone who wants the real version rather than a supplement pitch.

The Wingle Universe — Books By W. Ingle

Seven illustrated comedy books about a King, a Donkey, a goat called Keith, and a red button nobody must press. Start with Book 1.

Wingle Universe — Book 1

I'm The King. Don't Ask Why.

by W. Ingle

Where the Wingle Universe begins. It sets up the King, the Donkey, and the red button nobody must press. Illustrated, satirical, and considerably sillier than anything else on this site.

Who it's for: The best starting point if you want to meet the universe. Start here.

Wingle Universe — Book 2

I'm Still The King. Don't Ask Why.

by W. Ingle

Donkey returns, and unfortunately he has made a friend. His name is Keith. Keith is an extremely small goat, nobody knows where he came from, and he has already eaten Chapter 23. Not the manuscript — the actual chapter.

Who it's for: Anyone who finished Book 1 and wants to know what happens next, which is mostly Keith-related.

Wingle Universe — Book 3

I'm The King Now. Don't Ask Why.

by W. Ingle

The third one. Things continue to not be under control.

Who it's for: Anyone following the series in order. Or out of order. The books stand up on their own, which is partly how one of them got lost in the first place.

Wingle Universe — Book 4

The Wingle Chronicles — I'm The King Again. Don't Ask Why.

by W. Ingle

Book Four, and the point at which the series acquired a name grander than the situation warrants.

Who it's for: Series readers. Available on Amazon now.

Wingle Universe — The Official 5.62.5 Wingle Edition

I'm The King. Probably. Don't Ask Why.

by W. Ingle

The Official 5.62.5 Wingle Edition, which is a version number applied to a book about a monarchy. Nobody has explained why, and at this stage asking would only encourage them.

Who it's for: Completists.

Wingle Universe — The Office Edition

I'm The Manager. Don't Ask Why.

by W. Ingle

The Wingle Office Edition — the most pointed book of the lot. The author forgot to list it, and then had to write a whole follow-up post about forgetting to list it.

Who it's for: Anyone whose Monday looks like a Wingle book. Which is most people.

A Completely Unnecessary Guide to Questioning Everything

Think Outside The Box, What Box?

by W. Ingle

People have been telling each other to think outside the box for years without once asking the obvious question: what box? Nobody has seen it, nobody can describe it, and nobody knows why it apparently has an outside somebody is currently occupying. The book gets to the bottom of precisely none of that, and instead asks an unreasonable number of questions. Nobody asked for this book. The publisher checked twice.

Who it's for: Anyone who has sat in a meeting and quietly wondered whether the person saying it has ever seen the box either.

Not Sure Where To Start?

If you want to laugh at modern life

Am I Ready For This Shit? — the one about bins, passwords and the Twatverse.

If you want something completely silly

I'm The King. Don't Ask Why. — Book 1 of the Wingle Universe. Illustrated, absurd, and the easiest way into the series.

If you want something tense

Genesis of Rebellion — surveillance, power, and what happens when people have had enough.

If you want to cook or grow something

The Power of Lion's Mane Mushroom — 52 recipes, a 7-day meal plan, and a full growing guide.

Questions About The Books

How many books are there on Buy Less Crap?+

There are currently 10 books across two authors and three very different shelves. S.R. writes three: a humour survival guide to modern life, a dystopian thriller, and a practical guide to cooking and growing lion's mane mushroom. W. Ingle writes the Wingle Universe — seven illustrated comedy books about a King, a Donkey and a goat called Keith.

Where should I start with the Wingle Universe books?+

Start with I'm The King. Don't Ask Why. It's Book 1 and it sets up the King, the Donkey and the red button nobody must press. The others stand up on their own, which is partly how one of them got lost in the first place, but reading in order is the easiest way in.

Are the S.R. books connected to each other?+

No. They share an author and nothing else. Am I Ready For This Shit? is humour. Genesis of Rebellion is a dystopian thriller. The Power of Lion's Mane Mushroom is a practical cookbook and growing guide with no swearing and no jokes. They are deliberately different books.

Which books are available on Amazon?+

All of them. Every book listed on this page has an Amazon link, and between them they cover Kindle, paperback, hardback and audiobook formats depending on the title. The Wingle Universe books are illustrated, so paperback and hardback are the versions most people want.

What is The Power of Lion's Mane Mushroom about?+

It's a practical guide to lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus), the functional mushroom with cascading white spines and a texture that shreds into something remarkably like crab or lobster. It contains 52 recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts and drinks, a 7-day meal plan, cooking techniques including the dry-sauté method, a step-by-step growing guide for kits and home cultivation with troubleshooting, buying advice for fresh, dried, powder and capsule forms, and an honest look at what the research on focus, memory, mood, gut health and immunity actually supports.

Is Am I Ready For This Shit? a self-help book?+

No. It won't teach you to master life and it won't pretend the author has the answers. It's a survival guide in the sense that laughing at the whole bloody mess turns out to be one of the more useful survival mechanisms available. Underneath the swearing there's a warmer book about getting older and dealing with people, but nobody is promising you a transformation.

How can I buy the books without using Amazon?+

Currently Amazon is the only retailer for all of these titles. Each book has its own page on this site with full details and a direct link to the Amazon listing.
